READERS WRITE

From Steve M in response to my post about the Robert Plant version of the spiritual ‘Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down’. It wasplayed played after Holy Communion at a  christening I attended. I also posted links to a musical rabbi duo, the Gatt Brothers:
Interesting choice of music for a christening, Otto…got Thomas written all over it!

Never heard of the Gatt Brothers, but I have led a sheltered life. Good sound and strange to watch in a way - not your normal rockers! Enjoyed it very much. Made me think of Dire Straits again, haven’t played them in a while – roof is about to come off now as I blast them throughout the house! I always thought ‘On The Night’ was recorded in Sydney/Melbourne but I now know it wasn’t. Just think Otto…you and I could have both been at the Ent Cent during that tour on the same night (I went 2 nights in a row) and we didn’t know each other then. It’s still my favourite live concert of all time – what a show!

Take care

Steve m
Thanks Steve.

My favourite concerts of all time: Dire Straits when they toured Oz, and the 1998 concert where Billy Joel and Elton John performed in Oz as well.

For the latter, Bill Joel performed some of his well known hits on his own, then Elton John performed his, then Billy Joel performed some of Elton John's hits, Elton performed some of Billy's, then they performed together. Wow !!!. And in each concert - Dire Straits and Billy Joel /  Elton John - I was close to the front. Double wow !!!

From Ron T in response either to the Thought for the Day or the main post, not sure which but I would assume the main post.
Sage advice counsel.
Thanks Ron.

From Tim B in response to the 5 Facts about 5 Books:
Good morning Otto,

I enjoyed your latest post about books and ironically, my book swapping buddy and i were lamenting the fact, just yesterday, that few young people read actual books and instead favor the e-books. He and I like to hold a real book and turn the pages. I have not read "Wind in the Willows" but have put it on my list to read.

I have three brothers and when we were just little tikes my mother would read us the Uncle Remus stories written by Joel Chandler Harris, and would use the Negro dialect. Reading to kids now is probably a lost art as even the youngest kids have ipads and cell phones.

Keep up the great posts and have a great day,

Tim B
Thanks Tim.

Here's an item for book lovers . . .

Steve M also sent me an email commenting on the 5 x 5 Books:
The Wind In The Willows… I think we all grew up with that, didn’t we?

Looking back on all those books from our childhood, even the so called subversive masterpieces by Roald Dahl, there is no filth in them. Today, sadly, if you look at David Williams' work as an example (they call him the new Dahl for some obscure, misguided reason) his stories are laced with fart and bum jokes. Sad.

I’m glad I won’t be around in 50 years because the world is heading to a horrible place, full of angry, bitter people… I wonder why…

Steve m
Thanks Steve.

So Steve, as a published author of history novels, crime novels and children’s books, what do you think of these kids’ books?

Book blurb:
Zack Freeman's bum is constantly detaching itself from his body and running off. One night, when he follows his bum, he learns that there is a plot by bums to take over the world. Specifically, the bums plan to create a huge, worldwide fart by building up a massive quantity of methane gas in the "Bumcano". When the Bumcano blows, all humans will be rendered unconscious. While they are unconscious, the bums will seize their chance and switch places with their heads.

Book blurb:
The Animal Poop Mystery: Whose Poop Is It? A Funny Read Aloud Picture Book for Kids of All Ages about different animal poop. Loads of funny, stinky details about different animals and their poop are in the pages of this book.

A Scratch and Sniff book

From Tim B in response to my posting John P’s backstory on Paul Anka writing Frank Sinatra’s great hit ‘’My Way’, and the links I posted to various versions:

(Caution: risqué content follows)
Hello Otto, a great Bytes today. I listened to all the versions and I wholeheartedly agree with you that Frank's version is the best. Robbie Williams isn't bad and the Dutch singers with the music is very good, but I wasn't impressed with the Three Tenors. Thanks to you and John for sending, made my day.

Hope you and your family are doing well.

Tim B
P.s. I won't mention Miley's version. She's a good singer, but that song is too special to be sung like that.

P.P.s. Speaking of Sinatra, Ava Gardner said he was only 110 pounds, but 10 pounds of it was cock.

Thanks Tim.
