There is an iconic photograph of 11 ironworkers sittting on a beam at New York’s Rockefeller Center. The 1932 black and white picture shows all the men sitting on a steel beam during their lunch break 69 stories high with a spectacular view of Central Park in the background.

Called Lunch Atop a Skyscraper, the phtograph hqs been recreated into a mving tourist attraction known as The Beam. Visitors can sit on a steel beam that raises them 4 metres (12 feet) above the Observation Deck. Tickets cost from $34 per pperson up, but the opportunity is only there until 31 January.

Individuals looking to ride on The Beam can do so now until January 31 by purchasing tickets online starting at $34 per person.

BTW:

Part of the original image’s apppeal is the casual way in which the workers seem to be chatting and enjoying lunch together while dangling in the air. However, it wasn’t a candid moment, it was part of a deliberate campaign to promote the city’s real estate development.

Similar photographs exist, though they are not as well known as “Lunch Atop A Skyscraper.” One, for example, had some of the men posing as if asleep on top of the hanging beam.

The Mamas & the Papas were a folk rock vocal group which recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. Formed in New York City, the group consisted of Americans John Phillips, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips, and Canadian Denny Doherty. Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips, the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group, who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s.

The Mamas & the Papas released five studio albums and 17 singles over four years, six of which made the Billboard top 10, and has sold close to 40 million records worldwide. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for its contributions to the music industry, some of its most popular singles including "California Dreamin'", "Monday, Monday", and "Dedicated to the One I Love".

A news report records that MacKenzie Phillips, daughter of John Phillips, has opened up to sister Chynna on the latter’s Youtube channel about the 10-year incestuous affair she had with their father, revealing how she ultimately forgave him for raping her and turning the abuse into a consensual relationship. The pair discussed their tumultuous childhoods and the trauma that they carried from those experiences.

Mackenzie, who is the daughter of John and first wife Susan Stuart Adams, made a bombshell revelation in her 2009 memoir, High On Arrival, claiming that her father first raped her when she was 19 — on the night before her wedding to Jeff Sessler. But as her life began to spiral out of control on drugs, the sex became consensual for almost a decade, she said. Mackenzie is now a substance use counselor.

Retail giant David Jones has announced closure of one of its Melbourne department stores, leaving seven in Melbourne.

A retail expert has warned that David Jones could 'finally falter' amid a perfect storm of dire economic conditions and ongoing hardships being faced by the iconic Aussie brand. Other experts fear the latest move could sound the death knell for large-scale Australian department stores across the country amid a perfect storm of inflation, rising costs of living and poor foot traffic putting pressure on sales.

There are 42 David Jones stores located across the country, employing more than 7500 people. The announcement of Ringwood's closure is the latest in a series of setbacks for the Australian-based chain. In 2020, it closed its Fortitude Valley store in Brisbane after just three years of trading. The company's boutique Barangaroo store in Sydney was mothballed at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 after opening in 2016.

The 185-year-old Aussie department store brand was purchased for a staggering $2.14bn by South Africa's Woolworths Holding Ltd (WHL) in 2014. But last year it was sold to Sydney private equity firm Anchorage Capital Partners.
