____________
First of all, a happy Father’s Day to all the dads, with a special callout to my father in law, Noel, the sire of four daughters.
To paraphrase an anonymous poem about one future day (hopefully many years away):
An old man stood at the Pearly Gate,
His face was lined and old.
He stood before the man of fate
For admission to the fold.
“What have you done,” St Peter asked.
“To gain admission here?”
“I’ve been a father to four daughters, sir,
“For many and many a year.”
The Pearly Gate swung open wide
As Peter touched the bell.
“Inside,” he said “and choose your harp,
“You’ve had your share of Hell.”

Father’s Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide. Countries such as the USA, UK, Canada and France mark the occasion on the third Sunday in June but here in Oz, along with New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea, we go for the first Sunday in September, which this year is the first day in September. Why the different day? Beats me.
____________
It’s also the first day of Spring in the southern hemisphere and the first day of Autumn in the northern hemisphere. Hey, what is it if you live right on the equator?
____________
The name September comes from the Latin septem, meaning seven, since it was the seventh month of the Roman calendar, which began with March.

Sorry I'm so late with this; my Hotmail
account disappeared, and took all of my contact info and saved mail. I've been
wracking my brains to remember everyone with whom I had corresponded (which is
NOT the same as co-responded).
