Turk 182 strikes again?
Has anyone seen the 1985 film
Turk 182 in which the central character carries out various public stunts,
political sabotage and spray can graffiti to embarrass the incumbent Mayor
during his re-election campaign? I was put in mind of it when I read that a
doctored presidential seal had appeared behind President Trump during a
speaking engagement and had remained for 80 seconds before being taken
down. An aide has been fired for it. The latest suggestion is that the doctored seal may have been downloaded by mistake on a google search for a background Presidential seal.
The seal featured a double-headed
eagle from the Russian coat of arms; the words “45 es un titere”, Spanish for “45 is a puppet” and
referring to the 45th president of the United States; 13 golf clubs in place of
the 13 arrows in the eagle’s left claw and cash instead of an olive branch in
the eagle’s right claw.

Don’t (Won’t) get MAD . . .
MAD Magazine, founded 67 years
ago, has announced that it is ceasing publication. It will disappear from newsstands after the
release of its August issue. The magazine will reprint old material with new
covers, which will be available in comic stores and via subscription. But
aside from end-of-year specials and other one-off features, MAD won’t be
creating any new content.

BTW:
The Alfred E (“What, me worry?”)
Neuman character and symbol of MAD was not created by the magazine. The ad first emerged decades prior to the
use by MAD, appearing in early twentieth-century advertisements for painless
dentistry-- the origin of his "What, me worry?" motto-- and, in the
early 1930s, on a presidential campaign postcard with the caption, "Sure
I'm for Roosevelt".

After Donald Trump gave mayor
Paul Buttigeig the nickname “Alfred E Neumann”, MAD magazine responded with
the cover above.

Back in 2008 Sydney’s Coogee
Bay Hotel gained notoriety after human excrement was found in a complimentary
gelato given after complaining about food prices, facilities and staff
attitude at the restaurant there. After eating the dessert Mrs Whyte became
violently ill. A heated argument erupted with staff over the contents of the
bowl. Distraught, the family took a sample of the gelato and had it tested at
the National Measurement Institute. A report from the institute found:
"The sample has an offensive odour and physical properties similar to
human excreta."

Set the Wayback Machine to July
30 this year, Sherman.
20 year old Grace Brown turned
herself into police with her lawyer, admitting that she was the person caught
on video urinating in a bin of potatoes at a Walmart in Pennsylvania. There is no truth in the suggestion that
she may have been motivated by Matt Damon cultivating spuds with his own
waste in the film The Martian.
According to the DA, she will
be charged with “criminal mischief, open lewdness, disorderly conduct and
public drunkenness.” According to Walmart, they tossed out the pratties and
sanitised the area.

An incident some weeks earlier
where a woman posted a video on Twitter of her taking the lid off a tub of
ice cream, licking the contents, putting the lid back on and putting the
container back in the store freezer has also resulted in the woman being identified. This incident took place at a Walmart in
Texas. According to police, the young woman may face charges but it will be
"at the discretion of the juvenile justice system.”

Meanwhile, in Florida, a
dispute over parking spaces and the growing popularity of an ice cream shop is
believed to have led Jung Soon Wypcha,
the owner of the adjoining Indian Shores Food Mart, to carry out reprisals. She was arrested on July 9, 2019 and charged
with various acts, all captured on video:
