BUBBLE BATH DAY

Origin:

Comments:
The obvious thought for this day is
that children and adults alike can relax and take some time out to luxuriate
in a bubble bath.
It has, however, been a staple for
Hollywood, not for what is shown but for what is suggested. From Greer Garson:
. . . to Marilyn Monroe (that’s scene
from The Seven Year Itch btw, if you’re wondering why she has a bath in the
kitchen):
. . . our own Nic Kidman (obviously
Post Tom Cruise since she’s wearing heels):
. . . and our own Margot Robbie:

BITTERSWEET
CHOCOLATE DAY

|
Date:
|
10 January
|
Origin:

|
Comments:
An opportunity to get stuck into the
chocolate again after Christmas.
Bittersweet chocolate is a sweeter
form of dark chocolate. Unlike milk chocolate, it has no milk. It is darker,
and richer than most other chocolates, and is the most popular chocolate for
baking. Apparently males prefer
bittersweet chocolate and females line milk chocolate better.

HOUSEPLANT
APPRECIATION DAY
|
|
Date:
|
10 January
|
Origin:
|
Houseplant Appreciation Day was
established by The Gardener’s Network, establishing an official opportunity
to remind people of the benefits of houseplants.
|
Comments:
From Days of the Year:
Houseplant appreciation day is all
about bringing the joy and pleasure of the Houseplant into your home. Whether
you decide to start growing a small group of flowering plants for their color
and fragrance, or a small herb garden to enhance your kitchen, Houseplant
Appreciation Day is your chance to really brighten up your home. If you’ve
got a brown thumb, then try some of the plants that require very little
attention. Aloe Vera is very forgiving as it’s a desert plant, it will
actually prefer an environment where you DON’T water it too often.

NATIONAL TAKE THE
STAIRS DAY
|
|
Date:
|
Second Wednesday of January each year
|
Origin:
|
Origin unknown but believed to have
been created by one of a couple of organised stair running groups.
|
Comments:
Intended to promote health awareness,
this day encourages people to take the stairs and give the lift a miss, which
might be a problem if you work 50 floors up. Still, you can walk a couple of
floors (assuming stairs are available and you won’t set off fire alarms).
Btw:
Tower running is a sport which
involves running up tall man-made structures. Usually the races take place on
the internal staircases of skyscrapers, but the term can cover any foot race
which involves a course that ascends a man-made structure. Tower running races often take place at the
world's tallest structures, including:
· Burj Khalifa in
Dubai, UAE
· Taipei 101 (Taipei),:
· Menara Tower (Kuala
Lumpur),:
· Willis Tower
(Chicago),:
· CN Tower (Toronto)”
· Eureka Tower
(Melbourne):
· Swissotel (Singapore):
· Tower 42 (London:
· the Empire State Building (New York):
· the Bitexco Financial
Tower (Ho Chi Minh City): and
· the Colpatria Tower
(Colombia).

Comments:
January 10th is Peculiar People Day in
the United States: a day to honour the unique, strange, and extraordinary
people who make our every-days special. Think of your non-conformist friends,
the ones who like to put on a costume for every occasion, the ones who
brighten up your day with their eccentricities and crazy ideas. This is a
tribute to all the people who look at life from a different perspective and
embrace the ‘freak’ in them.

International
Skeptics Day
|
|
Date:
|
There are various dates given for this
special day: January 13th, or October
13th or first Friday the 13th of the year
|
Origin:
|
Unknown
|
Comments:
This day encourages people to be
skeptical and to never accept anything without questioning its veracity. According to the Merriam-Webster
dictionary, skepticism is an attitude of doubt towards a particular object or
a piece of knowledge, whether it is philosophical, religious or scientific.
It is only with this attitude that human society and its understanding of the
world around it has been able to evolve and develop - many scientific claims,
myths and hoaxes throughout history have been brought to light and debunked
due to the hard work of skeptics who refused to stop questioning and
doubting. Who knows, without Galileo Galilei's skepticism, for example, we
may still be believing that the Sun moves around the Earth?
