Good morning, readers.
As you know, Monday is the day of miscellany – odds, ends and personals.
Last week I received a barrage of emails from Byter Martin S, he who corrects me whenever there is an inaccuracy in something I have posted. I asked him whether he was on steroids or speed for such a burst of email energy and he replied:
You said that you didn’t have much correspondence in the last week, and I felt sorry for you. I thought there may have been something in that lot you could use. If not, It is for your amusement only….
I am sure you would appreciate it!
I’ll post some of Martin’s items from that flurry from time to time, beginning with the first email which was headed “I am disappointed”:
I am disappointed
After three weeks, I cannot find anything to fault on your blogs……
Surely you can [include] the deliberate flaw in an argument that I can tilt towards.
On the point of Abraham and Isaac, one theologian suggested to me that “God” should be “god”, that is, Abraham “thought” that it was God’s commandment that he should sacrifice his son, and this delusion was put to rest by a merciful “God” that provided the ram caught in the thicket. I have searched, but do not seem to come up with other sources for this interpretation.
The same man, rather disrespectfully, questioned as to why “God” in his infinite wisdom and infinite power did not send us an IPad so that all of man’s theological questions could be unambiguously answered.
Maybe someone can remember the great debate within the letters to the Sydney Morning Herald about 50 years ago that questioned Australia’s biggest whaling station?
Martin, some clarification on your comments please, both for myself and the readers. Clarify the Isaac/God comment and the whaling station reference.

On the topic of Abraham and Isaac, I was driving back from Canberra yesterday and listening to a Bob Dylan CD, when the topic came up in 'Highway 61 Revisited':
Oh
God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What ?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done ?"
God says. "Out on Highway 61".
Leonard Cohen has a song about it too, 'The Story of Isaac':
