The following site also recognises them and elaborates on each one.  Click on the link to go to the site and then click on the individual days to read about those days.

So today is National S’mores Day. I was under the impression that this was an abbreviation for National Sophomores Day, the word “sophomore” being a student in the second year of study at university or in year 10 at high school. It is a word that we don’t use in Oz. I looked up National Sophomore Day on the net but couldn’t find such a day. Using “National S’mores Day” did bring results and confirmed that it is on 10 August.

It turns out that a s’more, sometimes spelled smore, is a traditional nighttime campfire treat popular in the United States and Canada, consisting of a roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker.

It appears to date from the 1920’s, having been developed by Boy Scouts and Girl Guides around campfires, the name being a contraction of “Some more.”

Maybe Oliver Twist was really saying “Please sir, can I have s’more?”
