Quote for the Day: Ambrose Bierce

"Pray, v.: To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled on behalf of a single petitioner confessedly unworthy."

- Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914)

Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce was an American journalist, short story writer and satirist who is today primarily remembered as the author of the satirical The Devil's Dictionary. His vehemence as a critic his motto "Nothing matters", and the sardonic view of human nature that informed his work, all earned him the nickname "Bitter Bierce". In 1913, Bierce travelled to Mexico to gain first-hand experience of the Mexican Revolution. While travelling with rebel troops, he disappeared without a trace.
