Kerrie S sent me the following humorous item:
It sent my mind back to the original Star Trek TV series with Captain James Tiberius Kirk, First Officer Spock, Medical Officer "Bones" McCoy . . .
In the beginning was Star Trek, which begat Start Trek: The Next Generation, which begat Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which begat Star Trek Voyager and Star Trek Enterprise and a whole lot more including movies and animated shows.
But the original and the best was Star Trek.

Some Star Trek trivia and humour (some are reposts):
- In the hallways of the Enterprise there are tubes marked "GNDN", these initials stand for "goes nowhere does nothing".
- One of the most famous lines of Star Trek, "Beam me up, Scotty", actually never happened. Not in any episode or film. There have been lines very similar - "Scotty, beam us up", "Beam me up", "Scotty, beam me up," or "Beam them out of there, Scotty" - but not the exact quote. The closest came during "Star Trek": The Animated Series when Kirk said "Beam us up, Scotty" in Star Trek: The Lorelei Signal (1973).
- The series' running "I'm a doctor, not a..." gag originated in the comedy The Kennel Murder Case (1933). The coroner in that film, played by Etienne Giradot, repeatedly claims to be a doctor not a reporter, detective, etc.

Readers, live long and prosper
(to which the response is "Peace and long life", although it is also okay in Vulcan for the greeting and response to be reversed.)
