Not all street art consists of paint on walls or chalk on the ground.
One street artist who illustrates that difference (ha ha) is London-based Spanish artist Isaac Coral. His installation art features tiny cement sculptures of people which he leaves on streets, walls, footpaths, kerbs and in gutters, his aim being to explore the voluntary isolation of people from nature. His simple figures convey loneliness and isolation, they can be disturbing and confrontational but above all one is left with a feeling of sadness. Cordal’s sculptures have a limited life: they are collected by enthusiasts, taken by street people and destroyed by street cleaning machines. A new book – Concrete Eclipse – preserves them via photographs.
