Wot about Midnight Oil?

I commented last week on people (for "people" read "Charles") querying names omitted from posts on the origins of rock band names. As I was driving to work the next day with the radio on I realised that I had failed to include a great group from Oz in last week’s M – O list, Midnight Oil.

Oops.

Here it is:

Midnight Oil
Originally a part time band named “Farm”, they became a full time group in 1976 when lead singer Peter Garrett moved from Canberra to Sydney to complete his Law degree.  Wanting a name change, they placed four names into a hat:  Television, Sparta, Southern Cross and Midnight Oil.  The last one came from the Jimi Hendrix song “Burning of the Midnight Lamp” and was the name drawn.
