Pulp Fiction (1994)
Comment:
Quentin Tarentino’s Pulp Fiction was nominated for 7 Oscars, including best film, but lost that award to Forrest Gump. It kick started John Travolta’s career back into life and is today a deserved film classic.
Synopsis:
Four stories - the lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits – intertwine. In typical Quentin Tarantino fashion, there is mega violence, dark humour and homage to other films.
Quote:
Jules: There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you."
Trivia:
The passage from the Bible that hit man Jules has memorised, which he recites before killing anyone, was mostly made up by Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L Jackson. The only part that's similar to what the Bible says is the part where he says, "And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee." However, the parts about the righteous man and the shepherd are not real.

Bonus Trivia:
Uma Thurman’s hairstyle in PF is modelled after Louise Brooks, an actress of the 1920's silent films and 1930’s talkies, and is known as the Louise Brooks bob. Brooks (1906-1985) was known not only for the hairstyle she started, her beauty and her talent but also for refusing to accept the traditional role of women ins society. In the 1930’s she had had enough of Hollywood, made some further films in Germany, then quit movies altogether in 1938, thereafter writing and painting. “A well dressed woman, even though her purse is painfully empty, can conquer the world.” - Louise Brooks.
